Pastor Marvin N. Miles currently resides in the Metro Detroit area. He is supported by his lovely wife Carolyn and his darling children: Jasmine, Mosea, Malik and Meghan. He pastors International Gospel Center in Ecorse, Michigan, where he is directed by one greater than himself to reach out to individuals via those things that are tangible as well intangible. His vision as a leader is far-reaching and is not limited to the church. He reaches out to the community in ways that have impacted individuals’ lives enormously.
Pastor Miles, the youngest of five sons of Dr. Luvenia Miles and the late Pastor Charles O. Miles, graduated from the School of Ministry in 1979. As a young individual, it was evident that God’s call was on his life. He also graduated from Xavier University in New Orleans, Louisiana, with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Economics. He received another Bachelor’s degree in Education and History from Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
Pastor Miles is strongly dedicated to spiritual outreach, community relations, prison ministries, affordable housing, international experiences, mission leadership, program planning and development, grief counseling, youth mentorship, volunteer programming, committee leadership and nursing home ministries. He has helped many individuals break away from the yoke of poverty. Many young people have stopped running the streets and are now working diligently in the church because of Pastor Miles’ outreach to the youth. Former prisoners who met Pastor Miles while in prison are now members of International Gospel Center. This is due to Pastor Miles’ constant visits to preach to them and the power of God that delivered them.
Because of his community achievements and spiritual leadership, Pastor Miles was awarded the Pastor of the Year Award by the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in 2009. He has achieved many of his goals during his tenure as pastor. He instituted the Charles O. Miles Community Outreach, which dispenses food to indigent individuals in the community. His assistance to foreign missions is absolutely outstanding. Many Christians in third world countries have received tapes, Bibles and Sunday School materials as part of Pastor Miles’ literature distribution campaign.
Pastor Miles hosts TCT Television Network’s Detroit Connect, which reaches over 1 billion people worldwide. He is president of the Charles O. Miles Senior Non-Profit Housing Corporation, the entity under which Miles Manor, International Gospel Center’s 37-unit senior complex, sits. He’s president of the Charles O. Miles Senior Non-Profit Housing Corporation board of directors. He’s president of Miles Salliotte Development, LLC, the entity under which the Salliotte Townhouse Condominiums sit. He’s president of IGC Community Development Services, LLC, the entity under which the International Apartments, Medical Center and single-family homes sit. He also sits on the New Market Tax Credit Advisory Board, Governor’s Office of Community and Faith-Based Initiatives, Development Corporation of Wayne County and the Governor’s Clergy Leadership Advisory Council for Southeastern Michigan.
Pastor Miles organizes Empowerment Conferences throughout the country in an effort to teach individuals how to develop properties, as well as obtain the funds necessary to do so. In recognition of his dedication to International Gospel Center’s Salliotte Development Project, Pastor Miles was awarded the 2003 Vision Award by Mr. Robert A. Ficano, Wayne County Executive. This award commends the vision and investment of International Gospel Center to the City of Ecorse and Wayne County. He also initiated the first Neighborhood Enterprise Zone in the city of Ecorse.
Because of Pastor Miles’ anointed ministry and leadership, individuals are joining International Gospel Center in record numbers. God has imparted in Pastor Miles a uniquely powerful teaching and preaching ministry and a heightened attitude of praise and worship which, along with the laying on of hands, has taken International Gospel Center to an extremely high spiritual level. As he ministers, miracles of salvation, healing and deliverance occur. Through his deep devotion to humanity and personal daily relationship with Christ, he is making footprints in the sands of time.
In 1957 Pastor Charles O. Miles began his work as pastor of International Gospel Center in the southwestern part of Detroit, Michigan. He rented a vacant storefront building (located on Fort Street near Francis) that seated just a few people. His first instruments were a pair of symbols and a tambourine.
Later the church purchased a piano for $40.00 through a newspaper ad. International Gospel Center remained at its original location for six months. God was moving in a great way, and soon the news spread abroad. People began to come from all over the tri-city area of Detroit, Ecorse and River Rouge, Michigan. God added to the church regularly, and soon Pastor Miles was forced to move into a larger facility. This time an empty theater building on West Jefferson Avenue near Salliotte in Ecorse was rented. The name “International Gospel Center” went up on the marquis. Also, a tent was erected on the corner of 15th Street and Salliotte. During the six-week period of the powerful tent meetings, many people came to the Lord. It was during one of the services under the tent that God spoke to a woman’s heart to donate a new Hammond Spinet Organ to the church. The body of believers continued to grow under the spiritual leadership of young Pastor Charles O. Miles.
In 1964 Pastor Miles quit his job to enter the ministry on a full-time basis. It was a great step of faith, since he had a growing family. But this gave him the time he needed to attend to his growing congregation and the opportunity to travel to various locations to preach the gospel. Soon his evangelistic travels took him to almost every state in the United States and many countries around the world, including Trinidad, West Indies, Curacao in the Netherlands, Antilles and Nigeria, West Africa.
In 1966 the church moved to its present location on the corner of Salliotte and 11th Street and soon expanded its edifice to three times its original size to accommodate the swelling crowds. The rapidly growing congregation now consisted of teachers, nurses, accountants, secretaries, skilled tradesmen, and a variety of other professionals. The choir grew to over 100 members and had the opportunity to appear on television along with International Gospel Center’s musical groups. The choir and other artists within the church have now gone on to record their own gospel music projects. In time Pastor Miles began to host his own weekly radio and television program, “The Hour of Deliverance,” in addition to hosting and appearing as a guest on several telethons. He recorded heavily anointed preaching albums, one of which won the coveted GMWA Award for the Spoken Word. He published his life story contained in two volumes entitled “Milestones” and “Milestones 2: A Book of Remembrance.” He also began publication of our church’s “Deliverance Now Magazine.”
In August 1997 Pastor Charles O. Miles, God’s man of faith, power and anointing, went home to be with the Lord. He fought a good fight, kept the faith and completed with excellence the assignment given to him by God.
